Refrigerate after opening
The work we do daily is changing. The expectations we have as a workforce are also changing. We can all see this, especially in the intellectual field and among professionals and experts. This Brand Me-thinking that for me spawned on the pages presented by Ridderstrale and Nordstrom, first in Funky Business and then continued in Karaoke Capitalism. I matter. You matter. We all matter. We choose the organisation as much as the organisation chooses us. We still participate the rat race but the rules have changed - we know now that it takes a rat to win one. Since we are not, at least all of us, rats, it's sheer futility to take part in it. Any company is only as good as the employees are. There's no short or long way around this. The question used to be only:
Do we want to hire this individual?But as stated before it's different world now. Not only have the questions multiplied but also the other side of the table has started to have them.
Do I want to be hired by this company. Do they inspire me.We as employees need to be inspired and we need reasons to be at our best. A mere salary gets you a 9-to-5 guy that fills the hours shuffling shit and waiting for lunch. Results come in a whole other way. And results are what ANY company should be out for.
This is why management is crucial. Sir Richard Branson of Virgin brand still takes part in all senior level hirings. Why?
These are the people to whom you are going to be handing a lot of important decisions, so they’d better be people with whom you feel 100% comfortable!It's just so important. And you need to make these people feel like they belong. And this is not done by making limits. For a result maker, working hours are a curiosity and a place to work could be anywhere today, elsewhere tomorrow. What you can achieve and do achieve matters. It should. We got the market share. We landed on moon. Does it matter was the work put in to achieve these done in a suit at the HQ or naked on your sofa cat on your shoulders. It shouldn't but it does. This is what is wrong in a world today.
Don't tune your head - it's the reality that's gone mad!
Rules have never made results. They just push away to ones who can make those. And everybody can participate. It doesn't matter is the company big or the NGO just pathetic, everybody's effort counts and should be made to work for the goal. We want to enjoy our work, not to count the minutes cursing under our breath. Slavery was abolished some time ago. Act up managers!! If there is a single person or thousand persons at your responsibility it's YOU who must make them happy, not boss them around. A team that does not work FOR the leader is a shit team. Result wise. And it's the leader who should get canned if not hanged. Not the team. They can never exceed expectations if they are led the-fuck-knows-where. It really pisses me off to no end to have these assholes in senior positions. I have them for fuck's sake. Bet you have them too. And does that piss me off!
We still have hope. Likes of Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia. He has installed system called flex time at their HQ (among other things like on-site childcare!). What is flex time? It's a system that allows employees to go surfing when the surf is good and work later. You never know when your local break is firing! This is about trust. And what it does to employee commitment? They most likely die for you. Smiling. And they deliver. Results are what counts. And waves.
So basically what this means is that if you are a petty report CEO, a chairman who needs to have minute-by-minute accounts of your execs doings you can in a kind words of Chicharones just
go fuck yourself!If you want reports you get them. Don't expect results if you ask for those F***in reports. For results you have to say pretty please. Act up or you will never make it in the big league. Or any league.
Read this and think. We want to do our work well. We want results. We want you to make it be big. We DON'T want you to count how many coffees we had in a day. We DON'T want you to use a stop watch to measure our commitment. If you want to do the wrong moves to a wrong music go somewhere else and stop wasting our time. Don't stink.
The management is like pickles - guess they weren't joking when they said refrigerate after opening.
